Anna J. Claborn

May 09, 1921 - August 16, 2010

Anna J. Claborn

Anna J. Claborn passed away peacefully at her home in the early morning hours of August 16, 2010. At her side was her husband of 61 years, Burl D. Claborn, whose constant care for the last 10 of her 89 years sustained and encouraged her to live the full life she claimed until the end.

Anna, along with her husband, Burl touched the lives of many Savannah natives as the couple owned and managed the Broughton Street landmark, "Tanner's Hot Dog Café" and "Kessler's Restaurant" at the Georgia State Farmer's Market in Garden City, Georgia until their joint retirement in the 1990's.

A member of Immanuel Baptist of Savannah Church, and former lady of a Columbus, Georgia Order of the Eastern Star Chapter, she devoted her life to her family's care. She was an avid reader, crochet artist, seamstress and nature-lover.

In addition to her beloved husband, Burl D. Claborn, she is survived by her three children, a daughter, Dorothy Lee Doll, her husband, Henry, a son, Elmer H. "Pete" Young and his wife, Carol and another son, Burl. D. "Buddy" Claborn and his wife, Lindy. She left many grandchildren: Henry Doll, Jr., Jane Beebe, Kathi Hodgins, Rebecca Suppes, Christopher Young, Marshall Young, Theresa Young, Angie Byrd and Mike McCorkle, David Glisson, Kristi Smith, Kimberly Batts, Deanna Douglas and Denny Claborn, three living sisters, Opal Hunter, Dorothy Miller and Ruby Schweiterman. She also leaves 22 great-grand children.

Visitation: 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with burial following at Greenwich Cemetery.
